The ping represents the time required to connect the MetaTrader platform and the broker's server.
Basically, the lower the ping amount, the faster the connection is.
The higher number means that the data communication between your MetaTrader platform and the trading servers is delayed. Therefore, by looking at the ping value you can assess the quality of your connection.
What is the normal ping value?
The normal ping value is considered to be below 100. Traders with a ping value lower than that usually do not face any connection issues.
If the ping value is high, how can I improve it?
- Try to connect to the Internet using a cable.
If you are connected to the Internet over Wi-Fi, the connection speed may be unstable, and the ping may increase. Wi-Fi quality is affected by physical obstacles and also things like radio waves. Therefore, the connection speed tends to decrease, resulting in higher ping values.
Since the Internet quality is more stable when connected with a cable rather than using Wi-Fi, it’s better to connect with a wire if you want to reduce the ping value. If it's not easy to establish a connection from the Wi-Fi router to your room, try using a Wi-Fi repeater to boost your wireless signal;
- You can use IPv6.
The performance of the LAN cable that connects the Wi-Fi router to your computer or MetaTrader platform by wire varies depending on the cable type. Many providers of optical cables use a communication method called "IPv6", which tends to increase the communication speed, but there are still optical lines that are not IPv6.
If your current connection environment is displayed as IPv4, it may be possible to improve the ping value simply by switching the communication method to IPv6.
You can check the switching method on the official website of the provider or the support desk;
- Replace the old Wi-Fi router.
Since the performance of Wi-Fi routers is constantly improving, the latest Wi-Fi routers are capable of high-speed communication. Many models are equipped with a function that allows Wi-Fi to reach far so that the ping value can be improved.
